Embracing Creation Over Consumption: A Journey Towards Fulfillment

February 20, 2024

This is from a journal entry I wrote in 2021 and it’s being called forward now more than ever to be shared in 2024…

In July 2019, I embarked on a profound ayahuasca journey that stirred my soul and ignited a transformative process within me. As I reflect on this pivotal moment in my life, I feel compelled to share the insights and revelations that have since shaped my journey.

One of the most profound messages I received during that ceremony was a simple yet profound truth: “You can’t take any of this with you, so why do you care so much?” It took me a year of contemplation and introspection to fully grasp the depth of this message and integrate it into my life—a journey marked by selling my house in 2020 and letting go of 80% of my material possessions, albeit prolonged by the challenges of the pandemic. This was the beginning of what I would call ‘Decluttering my Destiny’ and when I was feeling candid ‘Decluttering my life away!’

At the core of this realization is the recognition of society’s relentless focus on consumption, trapping us in a cycle of acquiring material possessions that ultimately clutter our lives and hinder our personal growth. This incessant consumption breeds stagnation, inhibiting our ability to reach our fullest potential. And the profound truths of ‘attachments’ but I’ll save the theme of attachments for its very own episode.

Moreover, my journey led me to reassess my relationship with social media—an integral yet often draining aspect of modern life. As I ascended beyond the confines of the 3D matrix, I began to see social media for what it truly is: superficial noise fueled by societal programming that loves to live on the surface of hype reels and illusions. I’ve had countless conversations with clients and friends who share my exhaustion with social media, yet its perceived necessity for a business’s success creates a paradoxical bind. And yet here we are still having this conversation years later..

Recognizing that social media no longer aligns with my higher purpose, I’ve embarked on a gradual pivot to redefine my relationship with it over these past 5 years. I’m exploring ways to run a successful business while minimizing its influence on my life, seeking a balance that prioritizes creativity and authentic connection over mindless consumption and attachments.

In essence, I advocate for a shift towards creating before consuming—a fundamental principle that transcends mere habit to become a way of life. By prioritizing creation over consumption, we honor the space needed for our creativity to flourish, fostering a deeper sense of fulfillment and purpose.

As you read this, I urge you to embrace this ethos in your own life. Start your day by engaging in acts of creation before succumbing to the lure of shiny consumption. Challenge yourself to maintain this practice for a week and reflect on how it impacts your well-being and creativity.

Together, let’s embark on a journey of mindful creation, reclaiming our agency and shaping a life defined by purpose and fulfillment versus surface-level illusions.
